2011 Season Preview

The  GOAT

The Goat surprised a lot of teams in 2010 making it to and winning the MJTFL Championship but this is a new season and defending that title won’t be easy. The MJTFL has seen 4 different league champs in 4 years and a repeat champion hasn’t happened since 2005-2006. Lead by League MVP Dustin Heron the Goat will be looking to get the ball into the hands of there play makers and play solid football on both sides of the ball.

Despite the positive outlook, Goat fans should not get too excited about thinking they are poised for another deep run in the playoffs. They have a decent shot of making the championship game but teams will be ready for them this time around.

 The Kittens

The Kittens finished the regular season in 2010 with a perfect 12-0 record and looked poised to walk thru the competition and take there second league title since 2008. That wouldn’t be the case as they came up just short in the semi final game.

2011 will see the team pretty much the same as 2010 and with that early playoff exit looming the Kittens are hungry to get another league title.

Kittens QB Matt Hetherington states “I’m pretty confident in our boys. We have the same team as the past few years so it wont take long to regain the chemistry. The rust may take a few games to shake off but we’ll be fine. The talent level in the league is pretty high and is getting more competitive each year but I think our depth is what keeps us in the upper echelon of the MJTFL.”

 The Rebels

The Rebels are loaded on offense with Colin Belsher and his plethora of weapons. The Rebels deep at wide receiver with Keith Dutchak, Lee Smith, Riley Brydges and Brandon Hasmatali. Not to mention Tim Wilk and Mac Ansel who are both great pass catching snappers that can spread the field and I haven’t even mentioned 11 year vet Jordan Hennefant a player that competes in every stats category on both sides of the Ball, Jordan Knocks down passes, runs back kick offs catches TD’s and in my opinion is the best rusher if not the best player in the MJTFL.

The veteran squad  made it to to the league championship game in 2010 but came up one win short of adding another title to there already impressive resume. With the return of Levi Dombowsky and Kyle Alexander in 2011 can the Rebels get back the magic that seen them have a perfect season and capture a league championship in 2009.

 The Renegades

The Renegades will have a new look in 2011 as half of the 2010 roster has left to join the expansion Saints. The holes in the roster appear to have been filled by some talented young players.

Renegades Bob Craig “with the talent we picked up this off season I expect us to be a threat in every game we play this season”

The Renegades will host the expansion Saints in there week 1 meeting.

Renegades Player Don Terry answers to if week 1 will be a bit of a grudge match”absolutely it will be a grudge match.  And if the Saints don’t agree, by half time they certainly will”.

The Decepticons
The Decepticons are MJTFL’s second most veteran team and will look to have a big year in 2011. Decepticons QB Nathan Milne has wide outs Josh Lind and Curtis “Dirt” Breton  back. Breton is probably the more dangerous receiver at this point, but Lind can still get open down field, and he’s a great target on third down because of his route-running, experience and reliable hands. Secondary receivers Travis Weiss and Paul “Bean” Lamontange are talented, but neither has really stepped out. Instead, Snapper Ben Rogers looks like the next star in the passing game.

If the Decepticons can really come together as a team in 2011 look for them to have a winning record and put some big points on the board this season.

  The Skittles

As a rookie, quarterback Cody Pilsner did exactly what he was supposed to do: limit mistakes and learn on the fly. He was a serviceable quarterback who will definitely see his playbook expanded in the 2011 season. If he can continue to keep his mistakes at a minimum, this Skittles offense will take a much-needed step forward.

The Skittles look to be the team that is ready to take the next step and compete with the Elite teams in the MJTFL and this season will determine if that in fact is the case.

The 3 Toed Sloths

Formerly the Ironmen the Sloths will have a bit of a different look this season. With a lot of new faces will come a lot of new challenges for this team.

It all starts and stops with Quarterback and the sloths lost there 2010 QB to the Expansion Titans.

Don’t expect the Sloths to use this as an excuse, they will be ready to play each week and veterans James Bryanton, Craig Nickle and Stephen Olshanoski will anchor this team.

The Titans

The Titans knew that they would be competing as a new team in the MJTFL in the summer of 2011 so they used the off season to play in the indoor league and captured there divisions top spot.

The Titans will be lead by former Ironman QB Adam Moser and the pressure will be on Moser to deliver when it counts. He’s a quarterback that’s exhibited questionable decision-making ability in the past, but his game has evolved considerably over the last few years, and the idea of him leading a team to a MJTFL Championship is no longer a pipe dream.

The Saints

Veteran QB Ryan Douglas has always been a steady quarterback, and the Saints would certainly stand a fighting chance of contending if he makes 12 starts. Look for Douglas to hit his favorite target from last year Trevor Kincaid who has also moved over from the Renegades in the expansion.

The Saints have made some solid rookie pickups in the off season and with the likes of Leanne Martin, and Reece Mckeena the Saints will be a force on the field if they can come together quickly as a team.

Saints Capitain Raman Mall States” We will immediately make our mark felt in the league for our first game when we take on the Renegades”

Matt Heth Interview

Interview with Kittens QB and league VP Matt Hetherington.

Are the 2011 kittens going to make a run this year? Im pretty confident in our boys. We have the same team as the past few years so it wont take long to regain the chemistry. The rust may take a few games to shake off but we’ll be fine. The talent level in the league is pretty high and is getting more competitive each year but I think our depth is what keeps us in the upper echelon of the MJTFL.

Are you still feeling the disappointment of the early playoff exit in 2010? It stings a bit still but hey that’s the nature of sport. You aren’t going to win every year so take the lumps as they come and go get it again next year. Shit happens when you party naked.

After your off season play in the indoor league are you worried about chemistry with your Kitten receivers?  Im not too worried about it ha. Me and Doc are interchangeable and I played receiver in the indoor league so who knows maybe we will keep it that way. Doc is more that capable of being a great QB in this league so we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure Alex wont be playing QB, he blows.

What team will give you the hardest time this season? Year in and year out you gotta look out for the Rebels I think. Belsher is getting pretty old and washed up now (ahahahahah) so I mean they only have a few years left so I can see them going balls out for the next few years. The GOAT could be poised for a repeat but Herons lungs are going on about 60 years old now so they might have reached the peak last year.

Do you think any of the new teams will be a surprising contender this year? Well we have a few new teams this year so you never know with those guys. I actually think the Skittles have a few good pieces and if they put it all together they could be dangerous.
